New IT Technology Paper
Introduction
Some
of the new IT technologies that I identified during my research include;
webcams and teleconferencing, eTexts, and virtual libraries (Allison, 2012).
These are some of the technologies that have played a role in changing the way
the world operates at the present moment. They have made things to be easier in
the way that they are done.
ETexts
ETexts
have played a big role in the communication industry. This is because written
information can be transmitted faster, and at a lesser cost. Organizations have
made use of this tool of communication. This is an advantage since members can
be able to access to this information easier, and more appropriately. It has
also reduced the trouble of carrying lots of books, since people can copy PDF
files and download them at their convenient time. However they can be
disadvantageous since one incurs a lot of costs when purchasing materials like
iPad, Galaxy Tabs and other equipments that work handy with this technology.
Virtual Libraries
This
is another technology that has transformed the education field. This tool has
been utilized by most online school programs by making use of EBSCO Host
(Allison, 2012). This is by partnering with EBSCO Publishing in maximizing
their available peer reviewed journals. The advantages of virtual libraries are
that distance learners can have access to journals accessed by campus students
regardless of the location in the world. It also gives students the opportunity
to build their own virtual libraries for the sake of records. Conversely, it
can be used by literate people only and also requires that one invests a lot,
limiting this opportunity to big and well established institutions.
Webcams and
Teleconferencing
Webcams
and Teleconferencing is a media that is being sought by many organizations in
the present world. Due to globalization, many institutions are moving forward
to embrace this as a means of communication. It is advantageous in the sense
that people can be able to communicate virtually. It is also important to note
that people can be able to record proceedings of a meeting, or lecture for
further reference. To add on this, it gives people an opportunity to interact
and share ideas in a more virtual way. Contrary, it is an expensive exercise,
since it requires internet usage, and costs for purchasing and maintaining the
equipment.
Choice of Technology
From
the above discussed, I chose on webcams and teleconferencing as the technology
that I would integrate in my company. It is important to note that the main
purpose for integration is to maintain and enhance customer satisfaction as
well as improving productivity. According to Cisco (2012), Some of the methods
that I would use include: 1.) integrating customer contacts with the software
applications without modifying the application source code, 2.) providing a way
through which customers can be able to configure the operations of the contact
center as well as supervisor desktops which would make them match the system
with their business needs, 3.) allowing the contact center operations staff
specify the rules of the workflow without having to involve the IT staff, and
4.) automating the complex and mundane tasks for employees at the contact
center.
It
is also important to carry out a literacy program to make sure that all
stakeholders are aware of the functionality of the teleconferencing and
webcams. This helps in avoiding any aspects of confusion or inconveniences. It
would also avoid any accidents in the organization.
Advantages of Webcams
and Teleconferencing
There
are several reasons as to why I chose on this technology. This is because many
organizations are making use of this facility. Some of the advantages include;
organizations can be able to have large group of people working in different
locations at the same time but still communicate to them (abc, 2012). It gives
employees an opportunity to call through a central telephone number as well as
join in the telephone call to some members. This can also be possible while
using webcams.
This
method is cost efficient in the sense that organizations do not need to rent
venues to conduct their meetings. Members can be able to participate in their
own convenient locations. Also members can be able to have their own copy of
recorded teleconferencing calls immediately after every meeting. This is
important for records as well. Webcams and Teleconferencing are also
advantageous in the sense coordination of activities are well done and managed.
This is because all activities are managed in a single location.
Conclusion
There
have been trends in IT field. This is especially with the introduction of the
internet that has provided an opportunity for people to share knowledge and
skills altogether. It is therefore important for organizations to take this as
apriority in making sure that it has the best technologies that can be able to
match their needs as far as their operation is concerned. For organizations to
make a profit, it has to be effective
in all aspects, and efficient and effective technologies are those that help
them achieve this.
